Interstitial Condensation

What is interstitial condensation?

Interstitial condensation occurs when moisture in the air is transferred through a vapour porous building fabric (i.e. wall, floors and roofs) and cools down within the wall. It is commonly mistaken for other forms of dampness. Once the air cools down, it deposits the vapour moisture as a liquid moisture, which is known as the dew point. Interstitial condensation is common in cavity construction properties with cavity wall insulation, which allows the condensation to deposit on the insulation. The condensation will sodden the insulation making it no longer effective and create cold spots in the wall.

Interstitial condensation is mostly seen from the corrosion of building components, damage to the building fabric, the appearance of salts, and reduced thermal efficiency due to the ineffective installation.

Our specialist team can survey your property for condensation, providing you a report including recommendations of remedial action. We work closely with the ventilation sector to be able to provide your home with the most suitable ventilation systems to combat condensation.
